The interim HIQA report highlights serious, long-standing issues in several of these homes, including failures in care, governance, and infection control.

The Residence Portlaoise faced threats of prosecution after breaching an admissions ban, while Firstcare Beneavin Manor in Glasnevin has struggled with compliance since 2021, despite periods of improvement.

Other homes under the spotlight include The Residence Carton in Raheny, Belmont Private Nursing Home in Stillorgan, and Brookvale Manor in Mayo, all with histories of regulatory failures and restrictive conditions imposed to safeguard residents.

Inspections at some centres, like Residence Citywest and The Residence Ashbourne, have shown recent progress, but concerns persist, particularly around management stability and resident safety. HIQA described many facilities as “a work in progress,” while its report confirmed hundreds of alleged or confirmed abuse cases at Beneavin Manor and The Residence Portlaoise since 2022.
