Richard Satchwell, 58, is currently on trial accused of murdering his wife Tina Satchwell, who was reported missing in March 2017. Initially, he told Gardaí she had left their Cork home following a dispute, taking two suitcases and €26,000 in savings. He claimed he had been out when she vanished and maintained for years that she had left voluntarily.

However, doubts emerged over the credibility of his story. Investigators found inconsistencies in his alibi, questioned the existence of the savings, and discovered suspicious online activity, including searches for quicklime and an ad offering a freezer shortly after Tina’s disappearance.
In October 2023, following a renewed search of their home, Tina’s decomposed remains were found buried beneath concrete under the stairs. Satchwell then changed his story, alleging that Tina attacked him with a chisel during a dispute, and that he accidentally caused her death while trying to defend himself.

He claimed he stored her body in a freezer before burying her days later. Forensic experts were unable to determine the exact cause of death. Throughout the years, Satchwell showed little visible concern, which Gardaí noted during interviews and interactions.
