River Lee Tragedy Claims Young Man’s LifeA man in his 30s tragically drowned in the River Lee near Pope’s Quay this evening. Emergency services were alerted around 7 pm after two people attempted to swim across the river—only one reached the opposite bank and raised the alarm.

Despite a swift multi-agency response involving the Coast Guard, Rescue 117, Crosshaven Lifeboat, Cork Missing Persons Search and Recovery, and local gardaí, the man’s body was recovered shortly afterwards.#AD

Victor Shine of Cork City Fire Brigade called it a “tragedy,” echoing the sentiments of Cork Penny Dinners’ Caitríona Twomey, who praised the collective rescue effort. The local coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will follow.
