He’s launching his candidacy for the Bantry LEA and European Parliament elections on June 7th. Murphy criticizes the government’s handling of the fishing industry, stating that Ireland has the smallest share of fish in its own waters for over 50 years.

He also expresses concern about the societal effects of young people emigrating due to lack of affordable housing. Murphy calls for better support for working couples, carers, and a more effective health service. He criticizes the government’s handling of immigration and its lack of accountability.

Murphy, a fearless advocate for fishing communities, has spent eight years as a chief executive representing the industry nationally and in Brussels. He calls for a full review of the Common Fisheries Policy, stating that 85% of Ireland’s fish stock is going to foreign vessels.

Murphy also highlights the challenges faced by farmers, describing them as custodians of the land. He recently negotiated the Russian withdrawal from Irish waters, earning praise from the EU Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries
