Husband Guilty: Wife Found Buried at HomeRichard Satchwell has been convicted of murdering his wife, Tina Satchwell at their home in Youghal, Co Cork, in March 2017.

The verdict was announced after a four-week trial at the Central Criminal Court, during which the jury deliberated for nine and a half hours before delivering a guilty verdict.

Satchwell, a 58-year-old truck driver, had falsely claimed Tina left him with €26,000 in cash, spinning that story to gardaí, journalists, and loved ones for over six years. Despite a previous search of their home in 2017, her remains were only discovered in October 2023 during a renewed investigation.

Her body was found concealed beneath the stairs in their living room, wrapped in black plastic and buried face down in a shallow grave. She was still in her dressing gown and pyjamas, with her wallet in the pocket.

Due to the decomposition of her remains, no definitive cause of death could be established. No broken bones were found, and the body showed no clear evidence of violent trauma. The prosecution argued that the concealment and deception proved intent, securing a murder conviction.

Satchwell had pleaded not guilty to murder but was found guilty based on the overwhelming circumstantial and forensic evidence.
