All three had gunshot wounds, and gardaí say they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
Gardaí were called to the family’s bungalow home at Ballyreahan, between the north Kerry villages of Lixnaw and Kilflynn, at around 9pm last night.
Inside, they found the bodies of a woman in her 60s and her 23-year-old son. The woman’s partner, a man also in his 60s, was missing.
There is no known motive at this stage for what is being treated as a double murder and a suicide.
It is known that there were a number of callers to the house yesterday throughout the day but that no reply was received.
The man was a former bus and truck driver who also farmed and kept sheep.
He and his partner, who is from Ballyreahan, would be regarded as native to the area with extended family throughout north Kerry.
Their son worked with agricultural contractors in the vicinity.Source RTE NEWS
