Around 490 positions are expected to be lost at Meta’s Irish division, affecting various teams such as finance, sales, marketing, analytics, operations, and engineering. The parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp informed its employees of the job cuts, initiating a collective consultation process.
The exact number of redundancies will be determined following this process, but Meta has informed the government that approximately 490 roles will be made redundant. It’s important to note that this number pertains to full-time Meta employees in Ireland, not contract workers.
In November, Meta’s Irish operation saw a loss of about 300 jobs, and it currently employs approximately 2,600 individuals in the country. However, the company’s overall presence in Ireland as the base for its international headquarters will remain unchanged.
The job cuts are part of a global reduction in workforce announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in March, which is expected to affect around 10,000 employees. The Taoiseach expressed sympathy for the affected staff and families, assuring that the government will engage with the company to ensure fair redundancy packages.
